About the Author

I selected this research topic at the intersection of my passion for culinary arts and a personal commitment to physical fitness and wellness. Drawing on a background in food science, I developed this project to explore how long-term dietary shifts and macronutrient composition directly shape human metabolic health and physiological well-being.

This project analyzes dietary patterns and health metrics using continuous survey data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted by the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics, alongside annual sweetener delivery datasets from the USDA Economic Research Service (ERS). Detailed macronutrient quality and fat subtype trends across 1999–2023 were evaluated using NHANES 24-hour dietary recalls from the USDA What We Eat in America (WWEIA) dietary assessment protocol and public health methodology established in JAMA (Shan et al., 2019).
